Proactive business mind #2

Passion is not the same as Talent; it’s not a skill either.

Passion is like face powder, it disperses in all directions when exposed to breeze. One moment, you’re staring at it on your palm; when breeze blows, it’s gone with little or no to trace that it was there in th first place. When you first discovered your passion, it will feel like something until it’s nothing. Like Hydrogen peroxide, it disappears right in front of your eyes in a short time.

Passion is a “nice to have” in the beginning, but you MUST back it up with talent.

Talent is like rock. It is evidence-based; you can feel it, touch it, reshape it, crush it, squeeze it, suck it, play with it, break it, remake it, extract minerals from it,… you get what I mean!? Most importantly, you can MEASURE talent. Talent is passion at work (not really though 馃槂).

I’ve always emphasized that what cannot be measured, cannot be managed. Because you cannot measure passion, it cannot be quantified; thus, cannot be improved upon. However, you can measure talent; that’s why a person can be better than another in graphic design, tailoring, business development, shoe making, barbing, and others.

That’s why my girlfriend chose me over the other boys because I’m more “Gabilicious” than all of them combined 馃構 (I digressed).

You’ve probably heard this; “Follow your passion”. This is a LIE that leads to mental stress and possibly depression later. As I’ve said earlier, passion is not measurable; hence cannot be valued. Since it cannot be valued, it cannot be exchanged for money; as a result, it cannot pay bills (sustainably, at least).

Here’s a truer statement; “Find your talent and nurture it”. If you can, make your talent your passion; if you can’t, drag your passion along.

Till next time.
